How Many iPhone and iPad Users Switched to iOS 18? Find Out

It has been four months since Apple released iOS 18 to the public. The update is compatible with several iPhone models, including the iPhone Xr and newer devices. Now, Apple has officially shared adoption statistics for the first time since the launch.

According to Apple, 76% of iPhones released in the past four years are now running iOS 18, while 19% remain on iOS 17 and 5% are still using older versions. Across all active iPhones, 68% are on iOS 18, 19% on iOS 17, and 13% on earlier versions.

For iPads, 63% of models released in the last four years have upgraded to iPadOS 18, with 27% on iPadOS 17 and 10% using older software. Among all active iPads, 53% are running iPadOS 18, 28% remain on iPadOS 17, and 19% use earlier versions.

As 9 to 5 Mac points out, these adoption rates are similar to last year’s figures for iOS 17, showing a minor 1-2% increase. The numbers are expected to rise further until iOS 19’s launch.

Apple’s centralized update system ensures steady adoption, unlike Android’s fragmented update schedules, which vary by brand and region. As of January 21, 2025, the data reflects devices accessing the App Store. This unified approach drives faster updates among Apple users.
